Welcome to Ambient Guitar Academy
Hey my friend – I’m Antoine Michaud, ambient guitar artist, touring musician, and online course teacher here on my website Ambient Guitar Academy.
You might know me from my Youtube channel where I’m teaching lessons and tutorials on guitar chords & ambient guitar on a weekly basis.
Tell me - Are you trying to do one of these things?
- Starting an ambient guitar solo project.
- Writing and playing your own ambient guitar songs all by yourself.
- Understanding how to use guitar pedals to create ambient guitar sounds and textures.
- Learning more chords and theory on your fretboard to be able to add more originality and variety to your ambient guitar playing.
- Becoming an excellent ambient guitar player and songwriter.
If so, you’ve come to the right place!
It doesn’t matter if you’ve just started learning about ambient guitar or if you’ve been playing guitar on and off for a very long time – I can help you.
Leaving My Band And Writing 0 Songs In 3 Years
I have not always been a prolific ambient guitar artist.
Actually, it was quite the opposite when I started.
In the late 2000’s, I was playing in a female-fronted alt-rock band (think Paramore). We were playing many gigs around Montreal, eyed the Vans Warped Tour, but it never took off like we expected.
Me playing a ridiculous Halloween show with my band in 2009.
And to be honest, each song we were writing went further and further away from my creative vision. This wasn’t really the kind of music I wanted to make anymore.
So I decided to quit the band with the intentions of starting my own ambient guitar solo project, where I could incorporate as many cool chords and pedal effects as I wanted.
And for the next 3 years I did exactly… nothing.
I recorded small song ideas on my phone, but I was pretty paralyzed with everything else.
Suffering from Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS), changing pedal after pedal, being unsatisfied about the recording quality of my guitar, wanting my songs to be perfect before I released any of them – things were not progressing. I was just discouraged.
This was a low point for me, because I knew I had some music in me. There was just no way for me to let it out!
It was at the very end of this bad musical season that I decided to overcome my perfectionism and started to post on my Youtube channel on a weekly basis, no matter what.
And something that was just for me (posting my music and overcoming my perfectionism) became nothing about me, but all about you!
Serving Others & Writing 100+ Ambient Guitar Songs
After several years of posting my songs, sketches, pedal demos and other random stuff on my Youtube channel, it started to get some traction.
Many guitar players started to ask me all sorts of questions:
- How are you making this sound?
- What is this chord?
- How can I play like this too?
And at that point, I understood: how I can have success as a musician, is not by focusing on myself, but by focusing on others!
So I started to post more educational content: guitar lessons, ambient guitar tutorials, pedalboard tips and other tricks… sharing all my best stuff every week.
Teaching chords & ambient guitar tips every week on my Youtube channel.
Making all this educational content made me analyze and understand how to make better ambient guitar music and allowed me to produce some of the best songs I’ve ever written, at a faster pace than what I could have ever imagined!
From 2014 to today, I have written 100+ ambient songs on Youtube and 6 full length albums.
And what I was most proud of, was how those songs were inspiring other motivated musicians to do the same.
We created a nice community of ambient guitar lovers on my channel!
Am I special? An uber-talented musician? A naturally gifted songwriter?
Not at all.
I’m just a guy who overcame perfectionism - who turned outward to become a better musician.
And that turned to all kinds of opportunities over the years…
Like becoming a touring musician for Canadian progressive rock band Mystery, getting 10M+ views on my Youtube channel, and earning a living from teaching other people how to become excellent ambient guitar players and songwriters.
Me playing with Mystery in Germany, in front of an audience of 5000.
If you’d like to learn the craft of ambient guitar playing and songwriting, and benefit from my 10+ years of experience doing it, then you’re at the right place.
It took me 10 years of searching, hard work and dedication to become the ambient guitar artist I am today, but you can get started much faster than I did!
