Welcome to Electric Guitar Composing.com

Hey my friend – I’m Antoine Michaud, electric guitar composer, touring musician, and online course teacher here on my website Electric Guitar Composing.

You might know me from my Youtube channel where I’m teaching lessons and tutorials on a weekly basis.

Tell me - Are you trying to do one of these things?

  • Write your own original music with your electric guitar

  • Improve your melodic writing

  • Compose beautiful chord progressions

  • Use effects pedals creatively and craft sublime tones

  • Compose beautiful, lush, full-sounding, sophisticated songs by yourself, from home - without needing a band.

If so, you’ve come to the right place!

It doesn’t matter if you’ve just started writing your own songs on guitar or if you’ve been trying on and off for a while – I'm here to help you.

Here's my story and where my love for writing solo electric guitar music came from:

Losing My Passion & Writing 0 Songs In 3 Years

I have not always been a prolific guitar artist.

Actually, it was quite the opposite when I started.

In the late 2000’s, I was playing in a female-fronted alt-rock band (think Paramore). We were playing many gigs around Montreal, eyed the Vans Warped Tour, but it never took off like we expected.

Me playing a ridiculous Halloween show with my band in 2009.

And to be honest, each song we were writing went further and further away from my creative vision. This wasn’t really the kind of music I wanted to make anymore.

Band practices were filled with creative differences, conflicts and tension.

The experience was frustrating and we eventually disbanded.

And for the next 3 years I did exactly… nothing.

I recorded small song ideas on my phone, but I was pretty paralyzed with everything else.

Suffering from Gear Acquisition Syndrome (GAS), changing pedal after pedal, being unsatisfied about the recording quality of my guitar, wanting my songs to be perfect before I released any of them – things were not progressing. I was just discouraged.

This was a low point for me, because I knew I had some music in me. There was just no way for me to let it out!

It was at the very end of this bad musical season that I decided to overcome my perfectionism and finally dusted off my guitar and my looper pedal with the intentions of creating music my own way.

As I forced myself to complete songs, I got better and better at composing, got more joy out of the process and finally found my spark - my love for music again. Screw band members, I can do this by myself!

Serving Others & Writing 100+ Guitar Songs

After posting several of my guitar songs and getting a little bit of traction on YouTube...

Many guitar players started to ask me all sorts of questions:

- How can I reproduce this sound?
- What's this chord progression?
- How do you make your songs so melodic?
- How can I play like this too?

And at that point, I understood: my next step to have success as a musician was not by focusing just on myself anymore, but by focusing on others!

So I started to post more educational content: guitar lessons, demos, tutorials, and other tips & tricks… sharing all my best stuff every week.

Teaching guitar lessons every week on my Youtube channel.

Making all this educational content made me analyze and understand how to make better guitar music and allowed me to produce some of the best songs I’ve ever written, at a faster pace than what I could have ever imagined!

From 2014 to today, I have written 100+ guitar songs on Youtube, 6 full length albums & 4 compilations.

And what I was most proud of, was how those songs were inspiring other motivated musicians to do the same.

We created a nice community of guitar composers on my channel!

Am I special? An uber-talented musician? A naturally gifted composer?

Not at all.

I’m just a guy who overcame perfectionism - who worked on his music one step at a time. One song at a time.

And that turned to all kinds of opportunities over the years…

Like becoming a touring musician for Canadian progressive rock band Mystery, getting 20M+ views on my Youtube channel, and earning a living from teaching other people how to become excellent composing guitarists.

Me playing with Mystery in Germany, in front of an audience of 5000.

If you’d like to learn the craft of guitar composing, and benefit from my 10+ years of experience doing it, then you’re at the right place.

It took me 10 years of searching, hard work and dedication to become the guitar artist I am today, but you can get started much faster than I did!

In fact, I want to help you right now :-)
